5 Signs of Good Auto Insurance

Previously I have shared with you 5 Signs of a Good Credit Card and 5 Signs of a Good Checking Account. Today I want to talk about what to look for when it comes to auto insurance.

Here are 5 factors that I consider when shopping for auto insurance:

  1. Price—This is a given that you are going to want the cheapest price possible.
  2. Discounts—This goes along with price, but I like to get many discounts on my auto insurance. For some examples of possible discounts, check out this previous post 5 Tips to Save on Auto Insurance.
  3. Reliability—Back in the big city that I grew up in, there were tons of cheap car insurance companies. Their prices were cheap for a reason—they were not very legit, so there was no guarantee that they would cover you in the case of a loss. It is important to balance price with reputability.
  4. Various Payment Options—I like to pay my auto insurance as a monthly bill versus every six months or annually. I look for a company that provides those payment options to me.
  5. Customer Service—This can go along with reliability, but it is important to find an auto insurance provider that knows how to provide quality customer service. This means that they make it easy to change your billing method, change car or contact information, or process an insurance claim.

These are a few things that I consider when I am looking into auto insurance companies. Other items could include extended customer service hours and ability to manage your policy online. Instead of simply being lured by a good price, it is important to know what your priorities are and to choose a car insurance carrier that meets your needs.
